Teach Your Parrot to Talk
As with all training of your parrot repetition is the keyword. To teach your parrot to talk you will have to repeat frequently the word you want it to say. At first choose a simple word like "hello". Keep repeating this word over and over in front of the bird but never for more than ten minutes at the time. The more frequently you are able to repeat this ten minute cycle the sooner the parrot will respond and begin to form the word.
Repeat the word slowly and clearly in front of the cage for about ten minutes and no more than fifteen minutes at the time. Then repeat the word every time you pass the cage. Your parrot will soon begin to form the word and mimic your voice. As soon as your parrot speaks its first word praise it and give a tit bit. Show enthusiasm and keep praising it and telling it how clever it is. Once you have managed to teach your parrot to say one word others will follow more easily.
You can purchase bird-training tapes and play these to your bird but personally I prefer to teach the parrot to talk, myself.

It is amazing how your parrot will copy your accent or intonati
on. You may notice that once a word or phrase is repeated at a given time of day or, when you carry out a particular task or manoeuvre it will make an association. Thus if you say "goodbye" just as you go out of the door or room, your parrot will quickly associate that word with the action and as you leave the room it will start saying "goodbye" to you. This is very satisfying.
When should you expect to be able to teach your parrot to talk? The time at which your bird will talk will vary from bird to bird. Like children some will talk early and others a little later. Some parrots talk as early as five to six months and others may not talk until they are eighteen months old.
If you want to teach your parrot to talk start early and keep at it.
